DES-CASE Breathers:
As maintenance and lubrication professionals switch their focus to condition-based monitoring and reliability centered maintenance, breathers are getting more sophisticated. Many new type breathers exits beyond the standard breather cap, including.
1. Desiccant Breathers
2. Oil Coalescing Breathers
3. HydroGuard Breathers
4. VentGuard Breathers
Introduction:
Oil within a machine is subject to fluid volume changes, as well as temperature and pressure variations during operation. These differential pressure cause air exchange through the breather/ filler cap, allowing dirt and water to be drawn into the system.
Installation of breathers at these critical ingression points is a cost-effective means to prevent contaminants from entering the fluid reservoirs as differential pressures occur.
Reverse flow through the breathe allow for regeneration of the desiccant and more importantly, prevents oil vapors from entering the work environment. An imperative link in the reliability chain, breathers help control contamination and ensure reliability optimization.
